Welcome to Episode 9 of The Seven C’s of Creative Leadership! Today, we connect the dots and summarize all of the Seven C’s we discussed to date. In order to do that, weivy-ross-2 invited a very special guest to help us out: Ivy Ross, the Fearless Leader of Google Glass. If there’s one person who epitomizes each of the Seven C’s, it’s Ivy.

Highlights from our discussion include:

  • “We all need grazing time.”
  • Why it’s critical to exercise both sides of our brain.
  • The importance of play.
  • Why we should ‘be going on Safari” to dig for nuggets of insight.
  • Companies are too outcome driven; we need to have the freedom to play with all the possibilities.
  • Model one small step at a time.
  • Should Compassion become the eighth C?

As part of our concluding episode, we asked Ivy to give us a quick soundbite regarding the importance of each C. Here’s how she answered:

Communication:  “The glue that holds ideas together.”

Curiosity: “Asking the ‘What if?’ questions and the ‘But why?’ and ‘How do things work?’ questions.

Creativity: “Seeing things beyond what they appear to be and being free to make new connections.”

Connecting: “How the brain makes new ideas. It’s imperative.”

Culture: “Be immersed in it and be the observer of it.”

Change: “Or die. The only thing guaranteed is that things will never stay the same.”

Courage: “Nothing new will ever come about if you don’t have it.”

As we discuss in this episode, Creative Leadership isn’t simple and it takes a high level of commitment. We were thrilled to hear Ivy state, “I certainly think the C’s that you have are absolutely the ingredients.”

As we conclude this initial series of podcast interviews on The Seven C’s of Creative Leadership, I’m happy to announce two things: 1) we’ll soon have each episode transcribed and available for download, and 2) we plan to continue to podcast!  More news will come shortly on the latter, but given your enthusiastic response to the initial series, we will make some refinements and continue the conversation. We already have some great guests lined up for you!

Thank you for being a part of our series! We look forward to the next part of our journey!
